Sinking Ship Ahoy! (LINK)

While watching the first Test match in Melbourne between India and Australia, a friend mentioned that the Indian ship seemed to be sinking. "Yes it is", I replied.
The friend asked me "So, are you going to desert ship"? "No way", I said. I felt I ought to explain myself a little more clearly. "Dont you worry. I plan on being beside the ship even if I have to catch a piece of rafter, beam or assorted flotsam and bob along on these waves of overs", I said wryly.
Inevitably the big bad question came up - "Why, mate? If you are so intent on saving the ship's occupants why dont you get on it"?
"I would", I said, in the process of grinding my teeth - furious at the inevitability and helplessness of it all. "But the ship is already on its way down into the murky depths. The only reason I am bobbing along is that when the ship disgorges its occupants into the waters, there might be these ravenous shoals of piranhas closing in - intent on shredding them to bits".
"I even heard that some of these piranhas use microphones and some really love pen and paper. And somehow once these piranhas get into the act, it is as if the other, otherwise calm denizens of the waters, become blood thirsty. Got to guard against that".
"What say, is there anybody else with me on this operation"? There is no answer. And when I look around to see who is with me, there is only haunting solitude. As if I was not even having this conversation with my mate. But I can sense the piranhas though - if only they were hounds, I would certainly hear them baying for blood.
Well - shortly it is going to be time for a stand, here in the midst of the ocean. Whether it is the last stand or not, nobody knows. And frankly, I dont care. Because this stand is not about saving life. It is about saving the spirit - of the great game.
