This morning I am ready if you are,
To banish the coldness
and the night long turned back
To put our love back in harness
and in each other's arms bask
To forget and let those moments fleet
forgive and displease the gods of war
To blink and have our eyes meet
and look and feel and heal the scar
To sip and eat in our retreat
from the cup of tea and biscuit jar
To share upspoken secrets and repeat
our love in soundless word and tuneless bar
This morning I am ready
even if you are not
for my mind is steady
and yearning to stem the rot,
for Time is greedy
but cede you to It, I cannot.
