My Cricket season - an update
April 16th 2009 09:55
Well...resuming after a long lull....here goes.
My cricket season so far has not been that good. We have entered a new T20 tournament - that unfortunately seems to be the rage these days. We have played 4 and won 2. There are three more matches which are all must win games for us! I have had good bowling games whenever I have bowled legspin. I picked 7 wickets in 2 matches. In the remaining 2 matches, I just tried out some medium pace with the new ball (silly decision, I know) and leaked runs. There was also this interesting occurrence when I could have had 4 wickets in consecutive balls. This was off the 3rd over of the match - I was bowling medium pace. First ball - full and swinging away, batsman tries a heave, gets a top edge which goes swirling to 3rd man where the sun gets into the fielder's eyes and he does not get to the catch. To add insult to injury the ball goes for four. Second ball, I try for more pace, achieve it, surprise the batsman and the resulting top edge is caught at short cover - only for us all to hear the dreaded call of No ball. To again add insult to injury the batsmen take a single. Next ball again I bowl a decent delivery, this time again there is a top edge which I snaffle. Its a free hit so its not out. Next ball, is on the fuller side and the batsman gets a leading edge which goes to mid on and one of our better fielders drops a sitter!!! Not very entertaining if you are the bowler!
On the batting front, its not all been smooth sailing. We finished off a meager target of 70 in 10 overs - I did well in that match. Other than that, I have been dismissed pretty early on.We have the next match coming up next week and I need to do much better. I will keep you posted. Oh, and I got a new bat - a GM Catalyst (Gunn and Moore). It is breathtaking. Excellent quality, weight, finish, pickup and balance. That it came factory knocked in and sealed was interesting to note. Its doing well even if I am not doing too well using it
