The IPL opening ceremony

[This is a long overdue comment on the IPL opening ceremony and my impressions of it]
About the opening ceremony and about the quality of compering and commentary - the less said the better.
Money down the drain - without any doubt whatsoever.
Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy started off giving headaches to people watching the world over and the show simply blundered on after that. People kept on gushing about how electrifying the entire thing was but then all the gushing about only felt as if the event was trying too hard.
And when you see somebody trying too hard, it is always a put off. The tempo was not helped by that 'spirit of the cricket' signing from the 8 captains. Although the sight of all the captains and the announcements and the crowd response was fun to watch - it was a bore. And it is quite probable that nobody anywhere listened to a word spoken by Sharad Pawar and Lalit Modi. Modi sahab kept rattling on regardless, though. He carried on for quite a few minutes before sanity prevailed.
At the end of the day, McCullum saved the day for this the first match of the IPL. The opening cermony was, by all accounts, a huge damp squib.
Oh - I almost forgot. I saw a very interesting placard held by a young gentleman. It said 'I am here to watch the girls, not the cricket'. Not that the AFL girls were worth watching - which the gentleman would have found out much to his chagrin by the end of the day's or night's play.
On the plus side, the attire and designs sported by the players were a great sight. I really enjoyed the creative juices flowing there.
