Carnival or Cricket?

We have all become so used to the phrase 'Cricket Carnival'. I am sure it denotes nothing but good from the point of view of the media moghuls and related stakeholders. But I am not so sure it is that great from the point of view of the oldest stakeholders in the game - the viewers.
Carnivals need to be spaced out. Right now, the 'Cricket Carnival' does not seem to realize it. Gaps between seasons are thinning out. Matches are increasing. Even the Premier Leagues are increasing (SL added its own feather to the cap with the SL PL!). But the thing is - the number of top players contesting does not seem to increase!
A simple but not too far off the mark conclusion would be to point fingers at people such as Flintoff, Malinga, Tait etc and say that they are among the casualties of the 'Cricket Carnival'. That may or may not be. But if the powers that be do not space the carnival out so that each boundary and each of the not-so-frequent wickets is still exciting, then the game is headed for a major shakedown. Vast swathes of empty stands and reducing TV ratings on the IPL are nothing but a small indication for those who want to see and take note....
